I've been working on this dresser for a client for about a month.
That's way longer than I normally take to finish a piece, but the first redo didn't go quite the way we planned so the redo ended up being redone.
Here's the before.
The redo.
(Cringe)
And the redo, redone.
So much better!
The major problem I ran into was finding the right orange paint.
The original color was Masada by Benjamin Moore, a very rustic orange.
The problem with it was that since the paint already had a lot of brown in it, the dark wax and stain I used over the distressing just made it look dirty.
So we chose a new orange, Marquis Orange, by Sherwin Williams.
At first I was concerned that it would be a little to bright, but once the stain and dark wax were put on it darkened it enough to give it the rustic look we wanted.
Third times a charm right? :)
PS The stuffed animals used to stage the dresser where donated by Rhett. Meet Bruce the moose, Bear the bear and Tornado the horse. They are beloved toys around our home. :)
Oh I love it! I have been thinking about putting an orange piece in our house! We have dark green and khaki walls so I think it would really make a statement! Thanks for sharing, it really looks great!

Awesome! Orange is my favorite color and I've been trying to figure out what to do with an old dresser for my son's room. I'm putting Sherwin Williams on my list of errands today to get some paint!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great makeover! I think the orange turned out awesome! Great job!
ReplyDeleteTurn out fabulous!!
ReplyDeletei've been wanting to do an orange desk and i've had trouble picking a shade. maybe you just solved my problem. love your piece.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work! I'm starting my first project and have looked at many of your pieces for inspiration. What brand dark wax do you use? Annie Sloan seems to be the favorite brand amongst professionals, but are there any other good alternatives that I could find at local hardware stores? Gotta keep a modest budget. For a first project (that may be my only project), it just doesn't make sense to incur a bunch of big costs on items I might never use again. Also, how do you apply your wax? Many people use the Annie Sloan wax brush, but those are pretty pricey. Is that needed or could I get by with using a rag? Obviously I want my project to look good in the end, so I don't want to sacrifice that, but if there is a way to get a good finished project on a budget that would be really fantastic. Thanks for your help!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour. Orange is a hot colour right now and gives a piece a contemporary look. Love the Stained Ombre as well-that is really terrific and a new take on a look. I have just sold an orange waterfall dresser that you can see here http://upwithfurniture.wordpress.com/2013/03/08/waterfall-dressers/

What stain did you use over top of the orange?
ReplyDeleteI deleted my automobile decomp since they are debatable as you mentioned. Also be sure that you update your intake boot into the design with the alloy clamp. The plastic consumption clamps have a reputation for loosening and causing an air flow that will burn off the Saw down. Last, there's an noodle upgrade kit to your carburetor in case you've got the Walbro. In case you've got the Zama carbohydrate I think you're fine.
