Sometimes I love ugly things

Like these lamps.

I mean let's face it, the orange color makes them look like they should be on Carol Brady's nightstand,-but they've got a beautiful soul. :)

When I saw them at Goodwill I knew I had to have them. The detail work is elegant and a little funky and the best part is there are no tropical birds on them.

(For some reason our local Goodwill seems to have an abnormal amount of lamps with parrots and flamingos on them.)

I just don't do tropical birds,

And the second best part was that the lamps were just the right price for me.

Despite how much I actually do like the orange color, I am going to redo them.

Suggestions?

I have a few ideas but I'd love to hear yours!

    1. These were the first colors that popped into my mind as well. I'd love to see them in a high gloss with no glaze.

  3. My vote is for white or kelly green! Or maybe even yellow! Maybe look for an inspiring lamp shade first - that may help! :)

  4. Yes, I agree with Charisa I would get the shade first. Maybe use a plain shade and recover it with a fun bold pattern... then paint the lamps cream.

  6. I'm a sucker for peacock blue :) But, red with a black & white shade would actually match my home decor. Great find!

  9. I think peacock blue or teal with some antique glazing would be beautiful matched with a cream colored shade. I think they have beautiful souls too. I'm excited to see what you end up doing. Come to think of it a yellow would be nice too. How do you decide Julia?! So many options!!!

  10. I can see them lots of ways. For my house I would go with all off white but I can see them several ways with just a bit of antiquing or a bit of gold or silver to set off the design.

  12. Any solid glossy finish would be awesome. Maybe a white gloss with a solid black shade with gold lining. Something very sleek to go with the ornate of the base.

  13. I think they will tell you what color they want to be. I will suggest use ASCP paint as works great on so many surfaces. Then you can use a wax. I still think the lamp will tell you what color...

  14. love them... love the price, too! i say any color but they're begging for a mod high-gloss finish to bring them into this decade!

  15. I think these are great lamps as well. I would do something bold but not bright. Maybe something that if you needed to you could use in any other room later. I am thinking silver and gold. one color for inside the carved areas and one for the top of the outside. I am sure you get what I am meaning. Any two colors really could be great, especially with black in the carved areas. Good luck!
